In a previous tutorial, i had shown ASA emulation in Ubuntu 9.10 (Linux) . Good news is you no longer need to compile and patch Qemu (its already done for you). You just need to build initrd and linux kernel from ASA binary, set path to them in GNS3 preferences and you are all set. If you are installing in Ubuntu, follow the previous tutorial (just skip the compilation and patching section).

Well, we have good news. GNS3 v 0.7 has been released today thanks to Jeremy & GNS3 Team. This is a major release with lot of new improvements and enhancements.This release includes patched version of Qemu 0.11.0m , Putty and Dynamips Emulator 0.2.8 RC2 within same bundle. Also, as per Jeremy,an emulated host based on a very small Linux (likely to be Linux microcore) is under development and will be distributed with the next releases as well as in standalone.

In this article, i will show you how you can emulate Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) in Ubuntu Linux 9.10 ( Karmic Koala ).Also be aware that ASA does not 100% work in Qemu but that’s enough to play with it.I used “asa802-k8.bin” for this tutorial.You can create Shell  Script (first_start.sh) yourself  or scroll through the tutorial to see download link provided at the end of this tutorial.
